Due to the surrounding mountains resembling a fist (quan), this area was named "Quanshan Fort" during the Qing Dynasty's Daoguang period. However, as the name was considered unseemly, it was later changed to "Wenshan Fort," symbolizing "the elegance of Wenshan." In the late Japanese colonial period, the Japanese utilized the strategic, mountainous terrain of Muzha to relocate important institutions. After the Nationalist government took over, several government departments were temporarily moved to this area. To address the influx of residents, new elementary schools were established, and today, the district is home to numerous schools, becoming a well-known educational hub. Famous for Baozhong tea and Tieguanyin, Muzha is also home to Taiwan's first tourist farm, the Muzha Tea Garden, established in 1980, which has made tea tasting in the mountains a popular recreational activity.
